What Job Losses Mean for Each Industry

Millions of Americans have lost their jobs over the last two months. While no industry has gone unscathed, some have fared much better than others.

The chart above shows the absolute and percentage changes of non-farm payrolls in each sector from March to April. The three largest employment sectors (business services, education/healthcare, and government) saw relatively modest percentage declines. However, the fourth largest sector (hospitality/leisure) was responsible for the largest amount of job losses and the largest percentage decline. Reviving the hospitality industry is vital for the U.S. economy to recover.
