Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning

Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning

This past week, I had the distinct pleasure of attending the 52nd Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning. For those unfamiliar with the Heckerling Institute, The University of Miami School of Law is host to this conference, and it is the nation's leading conference for estate planning professionals. Among those attending are attorneys, trust officers, accountants, wealth management professionals, elder law specialists, educators and non-profit advisors who are familiar with and work in estate planning.

With 45 educational sessions and speakers comprised from top national experts, Heckerling provides the practical guidance needed to plan effectively in our changing and unpredictable legal, tax, and economic environment. The conference was also extended to address the impact of the new 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This topic is one of many that was discussed and which you’ll soon see more content from us. Other interesting topics include structuring philanthropy, planning with trusts, building tax basis, buy-sell planning, asset protection, life insurance planning, minimizing Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) and the Uniform Directed Trust Act.

It was a long week filled with great information that I’m excited to share with all of you. If you have any questions or want to discuss any of the topics, please reach out to me. I’d be more than happy to explore how your situation applies.
